Love’s Cage

Not passionate and beautiful this love
But entangling hearts the same
Indeed the sentiment and bonds are stronger
Than romantic dreams beloved by poets
This heart is bound by 4
Two of need and birth and blood
One of time and habit
…of life together lived.
Next to these most robust fetters
Encaging heart, love and desire
How can ribbons of romantic rapture
Dare compete?
Yet those gentle ties of tenderness
Persist
unbreakable because

“Now these three remain:
faith, hope, and love—
but the greatest of these is
love.”

Always Love
Whatever its brand of fusion
Endures
