Way to Go
You said it didn't matter
trusted me to decide
a hole in the ground
or a puff of smoke
you didn't care which
because you knew
you wouldn't be around
to see
But with the price of dying
getting dearer by the year
I thought it would be cheaper
to freeze you
and keep you here
at home
Then little by little
one dainty morsel at a time
I'd feed you
to the crows
It seemed like a way
of putting life back
using nature's means
to dispose
And now before sunset
when they settle on our roof
to squabble and fight
before the peck goodnight
I watch the feathers fly
and every angry squawk
reminds me of you
So don't think of me badly
if you could think now you're dead
I'm sure you'd understand
after all we've been through
somehow it felt better I ate you
instead
