The day after you came

The sun may shine in winter, but I will
Remain quite cool. You came alone. Descend
Alone. The bedchamber retains an icy chill.
And, in the lounge, the coffee's cold. So fend
Without its warmth or succour. You'd do well
To guard your fast, take your hat from the stand
And depart with no comment. If the smell
Of bacon tempts you sorely, I'll command
The cook to crisp it, so you'll hate the crunch.
Its rancid burn will really make you seek
Another hostel, where you'll have a brunch
That recommends itself. Shut up! Don't speak!
And do not stamp your boots nor slam the gate!
You came alone. So, go alone!  And ache!
