I totally get this. I'm going to share a story with ya.
Both my pregnancies were hard. But the delivery was scary.
With my first I was so in shock about the whole process.  
Took forever and got scary. It just never occurred to me to pray. I was
just going through the motions
My second one came and I was dreading the whole thing.
I asked my doctor how long she thought the delivery would be  
when it was time to push
She gave me a look - like - it's going to be a while.
I started praying. Not out loud. Just to myself
within 10 minutes out he came. LOL

Was it a coincidence or was it the prayer.
I guess it depends on what you choose to believe.
