Image for the poem linger

linger

beauty spoke on the night,
he spoke of dreams...

tears like diamonds were pressed in the sky
shining down upon us alike
you all the way across the world
still, I could feel your ache as I reach for you

the emptiness of the moment stood between us
and I knew I love you
I also knew I'd known you somewhere before

how do you miss a stranger?

how does your body long?

it's the words I didn't say
the words I wouldn't say
that cut my soul in the keeping

shaded secrets and you knew I was holding them back
fate separate us and it would never be right
it allow us only glimpses of could have been

tonight, I hold back my hurt
my tears are proof enough

are they shining down where you are?
