Sight and Mind

“Sight and Mind”

I could hurt you in a moment if I choose,
But for you there is a tear I do not want to lose.
I would rather be the one who is left behind,
While you belong in my heart as well as in my mind.

You have the sun revolving around you—
The stars and spheres surround you.
I wish that time could turn itself on a wheel
So I’d have one last glance, and tell you what I feel.

I know I’m out of mind, I know I am nothing,
And the nothingness I’ve been becoming
Is a guest I welcome as I fall apart
With the whimper of a prayer in my heart,
That you’ll spare me a thought as I cry
Wishing I could have given you the sky:
Heaven is a dreary place without your heartbeat
And I always thought it was there that we would meet
When this veil is lifted, and when I go to my rest
With flowers laid for you upon my chest.

What is the name of the sun I’ll never see with you?
What will I say when the skies fade from their blue?
Dawns and twilights have no color in the raindrops
That fall on the grey and lonely rooftops.

And all the things that can never be
Are here now, and they’re haunting me.
Is this the price you pay when you lay
Your heart in another’s palm?
The storm is raging, but all is calm
In the thunder that clings to the night
With you always in mind and in sight.
I wish that you could really hear
What I whisper in my own ear
That I put my heart into the sun
And into the stars, the stars; everyone.
