I would venture to say that it's the brain that kills things.  I don't think our hearts are capable of doing anything negative.  It's just that the brain overrides it, closes it off, etc.  
Eh, what do I know. Lol

This is quite thought provoking. I appreciate both theories suggested—heart vs mind as love-killer. I have seen the kind overrule the heart but I have also seen hearts turned cold—whether that’s the work of the mind or heart…I don’t know

You've made me feel like I'm not alone in having a heart that has more often than not, left me absolutely gutted inside.... Where at the time, death would have felt as being a kindness.....

Whether it's the physical or spiritual, the heart is the first sign of life and the last to leave. Folks who have lost their partners after many years of love/marriage die of broken hearts.
