In a Stargaze

“In a Stargaze”

From the avenues of memory
You have come back to me…
With the things that never were,
And, just for a while, I was waiting for
You to stay a moment in a stargaze.
Look at you now, your eyes are all ablaze
With the yesterdays we never spent together,
Though I’ll dream that they were there forever.

Please stay home…don’t go out there.
You know what it means when you say that you care.
So just stay home. I’ll bring flowers to you
Like I always had wanted to.

Its such a sunny day to keep me where you’re hurt.
That last rose is blooming in the desert.
We can become lost among the dunes and sands
With the sky held in our weary hands.
We can compress the years into this moment—
That is the forever I have always dreamt:
To say goodbye before we voice our greeting,
Just two souls in search of something like meaning.

I had a life with you in mind, once upon a time
Where the fates and our stars align.
You say I’m must being what I used to be,
You do not see the things in you that I still see.
You’re saying it’s lost. You’re saying that’s it’s just romance
But I cannot help but admire the way you dance
Around the things we said once upon a yesterday,
Around the words I wish that I could say
For years, for years…that I wish I had said before
And I know you won’t forgive me anymore
If I just stay home. If I just stay here in the divide
Like the night I held you by my side.
And I wish I was home…And I wish you could stay
But just like then, we turn and walk away.
