I am not prone to eulogizing
someone I have never met
but I feel the urge to express
some feelings about this cat

First introduced to his coaching
when Raiders where of Oakland
antithesis of that other gridiron team
across the bay

Where Al Davis was talking smack
Madden was talking x s and o s
harshest words for the referees
animated not personally vindictive

Loved to teach and guide
in that respect like Coach Wooden
and even more admired
as a coach, announcer, video game

Understood the importance of parenting
time on the job kept him away
yet his children always knew
they were loved and respected

A wonderful sense humor
not used to cut down others
rather to shine a light
on the oddities of life

At the very least a high award
for dealing with the most difficult
sports owner of all time
save George Steinbrenner

Admiration from fans
acceptance by players and coaches
informative and entertaining for viewers
high regard from gamers

A journey that had purpose and gave
joy to so many
thank you Coach Madden
a life well lived
