Image for the poem daily demise

daily demise

long before the curse that binds
less forlorn in savage times
wish me gone in delicate rhymes
and whisk me, worn, in thorny vines

lay me down in silken threads
place my head upon its bed
twist my neck in sickening dread
and drain me clean of anything red

winter’s drear darkens the feast
for light brings grief upon the beast
let no one let this sabbath cease
rend my flesh, bloated and bleached
