Her New Year's Resolution

As the clock struck midnight
To signal the new year
She made a promise to herself
To relinquish each and every fear

Every disappointment she endured
Every heartache she faced
All the memories that brought her sorrow
She swears will be erased

For she cannot move into the future
While anchored to the past
She's decided to let go of the things
That were never meant to last

She said good-bye to the men
Who only broke her heart
Who left her in tears
And tore her world apart

She refused to let her enemies
Dictate her new path
She will not be led astray
By hatred, vengeance or wrath

What she once called failures
She just calls obstacles now
In time, she will overcome
She just needs to figure out how

In this new year, she enters
No longer afraid
No longer burdened
By the mistakes she has made

She sees herself no more
As an mere person rejected
But as a woman of worth
To be appreciated and respected

It's her resolution
To relinquish each and every fear
And with this new strength
This New Year is going to be her year
