[ On Poetry ] The reason why I can't get into your poetry
is not by any architectural design
of mine or other out-of-towners
curious about your self service cafes
and dramatic threatrical stagings
but rather its Mayor's withholding
of the Key to Centri City
Tis an uninviting metropolis
populated with You-you-you
attractions erected upon
a Me-me-me theme
offering nothing
bold, exciting, new
for the average visitor . . .
Truth is, we've been there
done that --- same shit
different day in the diary
of a terminally ill poet
tilting away at windmills
within an Ivory Tower's marrow
high above everyone else;
a locked away poor Penelope
Rapunzel who can never be bothered
to let down a single lock of hair
of mine or other out-of-towners
curious about your self service cafes

of the Key to Centri City

Oh, my silly way of saying you're a very giving writer, and no one would ever accuse you of not meeting the reader halfway.

Praps in another lifetime? I guess we all start somewhere.
You've always been clever with wordplay and this piece demonstrates that beautifully!

I'm not going to hold my breath.
Thank you! I'm trying to earn my poet wings, but Clarence keeps hogging the flight simulator!

Dear JB,
Totally relate to this poem. Taking it personally, I’ve always felt like a one trick pony when I submit a write. On a non personal thought, the arts and creativity are sooooo subjective I don’t think we can help who we get into and who we don’t. I think you’ve knocked poor Clarence back on the ground when you clipped him with your poetic wings. I really enjoy these in your face truth poems. H🌷

Ahhh, while you do have a style that I've come to expect, you can still write about various subjects and be very surprising, if not mischevous. And your style is evolving, as evidenced by your most recent offerings. You have nothing to fear, H! And thank you for the wonderful comment.

I think I know who this could be aimed at. Some people on here have got too much time on their hands. They just regurgitate the same lines. It's a repetitive wasteground of drivel.

Thank you for reading and chiming in, Evo.
It's not aimed at anyone in particular, but rather an assortment of poet types who as you say keep churning out the butter from the same tired recipe.
There's simply no desire to give The Reader anything new - mostly because of the philosophy that any reader can be replaced with another reader. All that matters is that there is attention from someone at any given point ( or otherwise they wouldn't be sharing at all ).
I think it is important to challenge other poets to write outside the boxes they've gotten too comfortable in.
If nobody evolved, poetry would have died out completely and this would be deepundergroundsonglyrics.com . . . which would really be a total suckfest.

Savagery

Writing to escape from the ego and transcend as opposed to stroking the ego and penning literary selfies. Savage exposition Johnny

I found this extremely enlightening, worded perfectly, aimed at no one but landing at the core of whoever is stuck in a loop. It's sharp (in both meanings of the word), witty and overall deep. Then again I always enjoy your pragmatic approach when it comes to speaking truth.

It's good to hear you say that.
Judging by the amount of reads it's gotten so far compared to other poems of mine, it's obvious people who don't normally tune into my station were expecting some real time drama unfolding.
Folks, sorry to disappoint, but Johnny don't play that game. Despite what you may have heard, I don't write poems savaging specific individuals. Never have, never will.
Well, except for maybe Trump . . ,
Wally, thank you. A poem is only so successful without a passionate reader taking the baton from the writer's hand and finishing the final lap.
