Nightmares Take Control
Nightmares takes flight,
When the wind howls
The black clouds scream
Across the thunderess skies
Lightning flashes
The rains slates down
Hitting the ground like bullets
Leaves bend and break
Beneath the unforgiving onslaught
Windows rattle and bow
Curtains swirl and shake
Dogs growl and bark
Strange shadows run rampant
Horrific nightmares take hold
Evil deeds have no limits
Witches brew their evil stew
And spread their poison
From atop their bewitched brooms
I sleep shivering covered in quilts
Tossing and turning
Sweat streaming in rivulets
There is no end to my torment
Hell is where I am
A permanent resident
Burning fires and laughing lunatics
No escape, no way to wake
A touch, a hand, an hallucination
A whisper, a long lost feeling
A glow, a loving heat, something calming
Wings, a flutter, doubts, uncertainty
Fear, more witches evil trickery
Winds die, lightning lifts, rains abate
Eyes nervously open
My friends, they have returned
A room full of white butterflies

Author's Note
It's strange what your mind can do you when you sleep,
Strange and frightening places
From reading this, a person could easily enough think that I can't possibly get any sleep at all with this stuff going through my mind.
Quite the opposite is true in fact.
Strangely, I rarely have nightmares
More often than not, I wake up howling like a banshee in laughter.
My dreams are 99.99% funny. Ask my better half, she has often woken me up asking for details, but alas when woken, they, and all their memory trails have gone.
Strange and frightening places
From reading this, a person could easily enough think that I can't possibly get any sleep at all with this stuff going through my mind.

Bad dreams are super wild. Disjunct and crazy. I like your descriptions in stanzas six and seven. I love when I try to scream it sounds like I’m under water in that realm of sleep but aware I’m dreaming. I liked your attention to detail in stanza three. Either I’m forgetful because I never remember what all the hoopla was in my dreams. Or, they just aren’t that outstanding in any case, this poem was terrific. H🌷

Hi dear H
I can honestly say I hardly ever have a nightmare,
I remember one vividly though from my childhood, that was wild and frightening.
Mostly I have hillarous dreams on a fairly regular occurance in which I wake my better half and myself with all the laughing I'm doing.
Oops, sorry, forgot, for a period in my life I did have nightmares, but what I can remember of those will stay locked away.
It's not easy to convey all that I feel when people write comments about my poems.
My mind is a quagmire of tangled mayhem, never resting on anything. One minute I'm thinking of taking the dog to the vet and out of nowhere there's a huge block cock raping my sordid mind.
What all that gibberish means I simply can't find the words to thank you enough for your lovely warm words
