breath
and heartbeat

rattan
on pale flesh
the rhythm of
cries
punctuated
by
moans
interspersed
with
silence
the pause
between
beats
the pause
often overlooked
the pause
marks the rhythm
making it
visible
making it
identifiable
the pause
allows
encourages
anticipation
of the
next
beat
