Past and Future
When the past is forgotten
And the future yet to come
Stand in the middle of nothing
Stop there - do not run.
The future moves quickly toward you
Then into the past and gone -
Like the receding gong of a distant bell
Tolling loud and long.
All events unfold in this moment
In the now as the mystics expound -
Eternity is all around you,
Be still and listen to the sound.

The mystics point out that time is an illusion ... and to still the ever wandering mind and that voice in ones head ... through meditation one can achieve a point of timelessness ... which is eternity. Thank you for your comment. Bruce

Gosh, seems like one of those Zen tales, which the sages tell to their disciples, to help them achieve enlightenment.
It's fascinating how you use the image of the sound of the gong.
"Be still and listen to the sound"
When you pronounce the word "present", it already belongs to the past.
If the "past" is already past, the "future" is yet to come, and the "present" does not exist...
It is difficult to determine what constitutes our existence.

Again you are very perceptive ... A Zen Master has said, "Awakening to this present instant, we realize the infinite is in the finite of each instant." The "Gong sound" is one of several sounds emanating from the third plane ... or causal plane as it is called by many of the mystics.
