Some tears are too sweet to cry,
And some birds are not meant to fly
Although the sky is inviting.
And while my heart is dying,
I hear what your voice once never said
Through the tears I cannot shed.

O! These tears brim, but do not fall
Though the sorrow has taken all.
If I in a single tear Heaven could confine,
If I all things pure and divine
I could from out the sky remove,
And lock them in a tear to prove
That it is you I love and revere.
O! If I could capture in a tear
The beauties of the Earth and Sky,
Would still it be too sweet to cry?

And I fear some goodbyes
Will fall not from my eyes.
But in my heart, there is a tear—
A lachrymose the angels hear,
As they gather ‘round my bed
To say some tears are far too sweet to shed.
