Undeserving

I watch the rising sun
Set the horizon on fire
From the darkness of night,
In the absence of my heart's desire

She didn't leave me
I pushed her away
An unintentional mistake
I regret day after day

She drove out of sight
With a broken heart
Off into a world
Seeming to fall apart

It's been so long ago
Since I've seen her last
Still, at the thought of her
My heart beats ever so fast

I know she was my loss
And now somebody's gain
Where I once knew happiness
I now only know pain

I lost count of the tears
That have fallen since then
And all of the thoughts
About what might have been

Some say I did nothing
And they're exactly right
I didn't do anything
I see that now in hindsight

I didn't let her know
My feelings inside
There was so very much
I didn't confide

I didn't tell her she was beautiful
Kindhearted and selfless
I never thanked her for being patient
For being there when I felt helpless

What a man could want in a woman
In her I had it all
And I let her go
In my spiritual fall

I don't deserve her
Yet in the depths of my misery
I watch the horizon with hope
I'll one day see her returning to me
