As faceless as the one you choose
I gaze in the mirror of many views,
Hating the reflections staring right through me,
For the eyes show what you still mean to me.

I do not need the dews of yesterday,
I only need new wings to carry me away.
I will take what I see and what once I held
And all the dreams wherein you dwelled
I do not need a warden to tell me I’m a prisoner
To the way things never were
And though what should hangs within my cell,
I never could bring myself to bid my dreams farewell.

There are diamonds in the sea, etched and driven
From all the prayers that fall from Heaven—
One I found upon the shore, near the city of the weeping star
Where the dregs and flames of all our beauties are.
This I bore in hands that bled to the ancient city square
To give to one whose soul was not there.
What jewel is this that withers into the air of sleep
While I lay faceless, and reflected, I weep?
