It Be That Way Sometimes

When did the storm clouds
pull me into a tornado of doubt:
tumbling around, grasping
for someone I vaguely remember.

Swirling winds are calm some days
and I'm spewed forth without wings
to coast into soft landings.

I crash the fields with my awkward
walk and mechanical mouth.

But it be that way sometimes.

The enormity of it all.
One step forward...

...two back.

It's a dance, never mastered,
but one I rehearse.

I'd be a fool to step into
that storm again, because
I’m not here to lose—

I'm here to win.
