What Lies Within

Black clouds enfold
a melancholic heart.
Murky atmosphere cloaks
downcast eyes as they search
for truth within these tattered walls.

You are halogen, our union
bound by caustic lies: your coil
squeezing me until
I become the salt.

Rain washes away bits
of carrion: the soil weeping
for a soul, flung against
fragile landscapes.

Not to worry: I am steadfast
in my search for freedom.
One day this shell will rid
itself of your darkness,

and though my desolate heart
remain, I will see the sun. †
