Returning From War

Your words spoke life into my hardened shell,
hinting at salvation for this soul sliding toward Hell.
Your touch gave hope for forgiveness
to these hands that once killed for our country.

Were you brought this far for this very night?
Ten thousand days in the making,
but what a beautiful work of art you became!

We’ve held others in battle and in love.
I was used, but took pleasures in the killing
as you gave pleasures for the mending.
In each were tragic endings.

So, pray now as you spread your vines
that your treasured wine erase past crimes.

Author's Note
I knew a man who came back from serving in the military. One of my former lovers brought him back to sanity and mended his life with her love. It was a beautiful thing to see.
