‘Can’t’ came along for the ride, so
I had a hard time
getting dressed,
wouldn’t drive the car, and
I didn’t get to the party.

Anxiety is so debilitating and depression is so suffocating. I think the seriousness of this poem is huge yet, I loved the gentle sense of humor with which you spun the topic. H 🌷

The awareness, here, either of your self or that of another,
is really presented in such a polished clarity, that it pulsates
in my neurons and reaches out to my heart like opacities in the sky.
One thing that occurs to me. (I have struggled with anxiety, depression.)
Is it ever okay to be okay with yourself?
Like... I didn't want to go to that thing so I didn't go,
and I enjoyed myself nevertheless and maybe even more?
I do see how you might go to the thing and be happy you did...
Or how not going to the thing can have an exponential
socially degrading effect upon a person?
but then of course there is the idea of having nothing that may hinder you in any way...
Like... I didnt go because I was paralyzed by anxiety,
or I was too depressed to go...
Its like... Maybe I wouldn't or won't go, but I want that to be on my own terms,
and not at the behest of some "condition", even if this condition
might be a perfectly natural response to the nature of the world.

Cipher_O, you present some great conversation here. It is such a fine line between managing anxiety, and giving in to avoidance behaviours that only exacerbate the issue.
Of course we will convince ourselves that we don't actually want to go sometimes. It's the safest, the easiest.
And at the same time, with energy expenditure at serious all-time highs with anxiety, we also deserve to take the night off. Which is our reality in any given moment? Only we know for ourselves, through deep, deep self-reflection.

Anxiety, fear of the unknown. I know. In such cinditions it may be best to stay home rather than face situations which make you even more uneasy.
