Fated

Our first date,
Iate
October
crashed a stranger's
downtown party

devil horned
and black cat ears
let us blend and
disappear

danced,
fancy drink drunk

spinning Scarecrows,
dizzy Pirates
roared on
tilting tiled floors

we inhaled their presence
don’t know who

hunts

for purring djinn
or cats with monstrous grins

Cupid cried, ‘Oh, Alice!’
drew his bow and
arrows flew

all the while we
thought we knew
how we were
going home.
