Image for the poem Black

Black

Even in the flowers of spring,
I can follow the sorrow -
Like melting ice, in reverse
To the place where my face

Was

Frost bitten
smitten
with

Sadness

All unexpressed
and
hardly felt.

My dad died then
&
he said goodbye
on

a

bitter wind
in

Weeping ice sickles
in trickles
like

heart beat metronomes
over

Snow sleet
&
Slates of silence

Slates of time -
Minutes hours:

I unraveled and time traveled
following the ice to something nice

but all there was
was
dead flowers.

And now…

And now…

Tears encapsulated in cyclical movements eclipsing the black of my alien eyes

with

deeper

Black.
