… crossroads: respect

hold the door open
not just for a friend,

                                             charge like a boar
                                             to be the first in..

hold hands tightly
to show where you
stand,

                                           view of affection
                                           not in the partner’s
                                           plan..

pardon me
works any given day,

                                          “watch out fool
                                           you’re in the damn
                                           way”

pull out a chair
so she can sit down

                                            “my seat baby
                                            why you trying to
                                             clown”..

she wants to share
Dutch on the town

                                        “stop being so cheap
                                         all you get is a
                                         frown”

understanding and diplomacy
to circumvent a sin,

                                        pit-bull posturing
                                        leads straight to the
                                        pen..

tried it both ways
                                          one seems to work,
one like a gentleman
                                         the other like a jerk,
 depending on the setting
                        either can bring dirt,

stand in a cool way
a mental paycheck,
please and thank you
leaving pride on the deck,

a motive to respect
                           could be the opposite view,
 comes down to environment
                          which way you must choose,

whether it be the thug
or suburban exec,
love is the clue,
a personal asset,

no stride will you lose,
that is a sure bet,

money, fear, and sex,

are not true fulcrums of respect.
