There's power in recognizing toxicity, even if it happens to come from a family member. The open honesty is refreshing. I think we spend a lot time trying to reconcile ourselves, figuring out how to live life, the best way possible. Which is not an easy road traveled, So knowing yourself well enough to know you've had enough and ending a relationship that's seemingly futile—sticking to your guns, is growth, in my opinion.
Part of the never ending process of adulthood (ewww.... I kid)....

My family was a bit different growing up. I mean I had a roof over my head and parents that stuck together. But we never said love you, or were close. I guess sometimes I feel family coming around now is like, where were they before? Very much on my own through my life but worked hard and got to a place of happiness. So regardless of blood I have no patience for anyone's BS.

Sometimes, family are nothing but low life cunts who’re just like leeches; especially, if they’re not interested in supporting you by investing their positive energy in you as opposed to the shitfuckery they may revel in flinging your way !

I don’t speak to any of my family, aside from 1 aunt, not even my parents; and it’s been no loss to me ! In the end, my friends became my family.

I am very similar to you. I don't really talk to family.  I feel a bit bad about it because people say "woudn't you miss them when they're gone?". Idk, maybe. Like you said, family tends to be the first to use and abuse. At least thats how some families are. My wife never let me down, and my in-laws have been like a real family to me, so I don't need such negativity in my life. I don't see the point in it.
