Mummy Dust

"There will be hell to pay!"

I heard him shout out
shaking the rafters so...

 dust drifted down
 into my gaping mouth
 the taste of old whiskey

as avarice
greets my dry tongue
like scorched flesh
standing to close to fire

"There will be hell to pay!"

blackbirds sing from their pulpits
craved oak benches giving me splinters
whilst I lull my days in the chapel
those scriptures that they speak
becomes gibberish in my ears

mummy dust settles,from the trestle
drifts from up above
into the golden goblet
drink it in, the sweet nectar
excuses become wafer thin

"There will be hell to pay!"

The Rosenbergs scream loudly
as they are sentenced to ride the lightening
treason was their crime...

then makes me wonder, the gavel
must of like sounded thunder
when the judge passed sentence on them
did it shake the foundations, cause dust to drift
on their parched lips in the courtroom

Or did he just say sod it all....

"But there will be hell to pay!"

Author's Note
The Rosenbergs rode the Lightening the other day...that line always stood out for me from Sylvia Plath's Bell Jar..I have always been a admirer of the aspects that led her to write the Bell Jar...in this Free Verse I express some of her more poignant free form style, I also used a more Bukowski approach to this penning...trying not to rhyme, but I have trouble with that, seems like I wear that old hat...like a badge of honor I rhyme in center and end, sometimes it drives other round the bend...even once I rhymed a poem in the beginnings of each stanza, now that was quite complicated feet...but that is how the progressive poet Shinobi rolls, when the bell tolls
