Sweet Caroline

On the stage it stood so bare
the amps unplugged all was silence, peaceful, quiet
the spotlight lost, a star to share
his ghost stood at the mike,
in the crowds thick fug.

Tickets rare a rocking horse shit,
pawned my goods to make the trip,
for they came in hordes and droves,
in admiration, young and old's.
 Adulation raised the roof.
A greater star, to entrance, with lyrics truth.
the one with which, we could engage,
he sang,  of feelings, fit for every age.
Spoke joy for romance, at every stage
sparkle, presence just, the purity,
 sweet feelings, adolescence to maturity.
Wrapped up in bows,
simple packages, safe from the pecking crows,
take us from our world of woes.
Not the forlorn melted down,
 two of oneness, triumphed loud.
Simplicity when all we had was given free,
cocooned in the bliss of our own propensity of grace.
Sang for a namesake, someone else stood in my place,
I could be that treasure, a golden here and now.
Centre stage Neil Diamond stood and wowed the crowd
the masses sang as if bewitched
Sweet Caroline
"good times never seemed so good"
twenty thousand, backing vocals stood.
Every heart that sours,
the gift, a glimpse of paradise be ours,
That stadium stands empty now,
 ghosts in shadows hum aloud.
Don the faded T-shirt
push the share, and hope to find a new convert
