Storm on Buffalo Trail

The oaken leaves clatter against each other in the wind
And the sky seems to run to the horizon
Wild grasses cling onto the soil as the earth erodes away
And whole fields are but clouds of silt and sand

The earth shudders as the lightning pierces through
All the air seems to tense up as thunder claps
And from a high point on the mesa
The world seems to peel away before the wind
To reveal the bones of the earth underneath
To be illuminated by the blue-mauve glow of thunderbolts
