What went wrong
My heart is
Hemorrhaging
From a fresh memory
She walked in the room
The immediate chemistry
You forgot all about me
So I'm digging deep down
And turning the locks
Because I can't watch
It's not my style
Hasn't been for a while
Instead I'll send you a
Symphony of waves
So you can still
Surf me babe
Glide your fingertips
Across my lips
And kiss the wave
I've been know
To have selfish tendencies
When it comes to my heart
But this time around
I shouldn't have to fight
Because I've got pride
I'll be a permanent
Echo in your ear

Author's Note
I love the movie Point Break. The scene where Patrick Swayze leans into the wave and glides his fingers. Just wow!! That inspired me. That scene!! Not to mention Keanu Reeves who I am slightly obsessed with.

Really enjoy this--
the dramatic situation;
the identification of the female with water, resulting in a kind of wistful persona poem;
there's a kind of rocking, samba-rhythm, which works to good effect--a counterpoint to the sadness / bitterness of ending;
the double-meaning of the wave;
those are what makes this work.
Point Break--what's her name, the Terminator's wife...she was really something else for her first 3 films. Point Break was kind of the fulcrum, the pivot. Those early films...highly recommended.
It reminded me of Stevie Smith's much-anthologized poem, "Not Waving But Drowing."

You forgot all about me” oh. My. God! It’s like, what’s she got that I don’t? I’ve never seen the movie you reference, I do understand the pull for Keanu Reeves. He’s totally hot. 😃
Back to your poem- this made me think how many times I can relate to this scenario, sadly a lot. I thought the repetition of “ It's not my style
Hasn't been for a while” is a great affirmation of not taking another’s rude heart shift while trying to maintain and survive heartbreak. I really liked the images of the water, to me, rushing in to break up the picture yet, to cleanse and create a distance to start afresh. Heartbreak. It’s the worst. This poem is terrific in relating these emotions of detaching despite the difficulty of doing so. H🌷

So happy you enjoyed!! I was going for more of an emotion element with this poem. Wanted to try and make that common connection with everyone. Heartbreak. Ugh It sucks. Mourn a smidge then move on. Sometimes things are not meant to be and that is okay. Learned early on in life it will not kill you. No need to be bitter. Lots of fish in the sea.
