Image for the poem ex

ex

the hiss of the door as it shut unnerved me
I knew it had closed for good
the devil witness your departure
he was first to tell me I was alone

a mistress of fate took you
it was fate she should be there when I faltered
I loved you but not enough
she saw different sides of you
found them endearing
where I was irritated
I looked at you through her eyes

I envied

time wasn't on my side
with bitter tears I look in the mirror
ravaged with age
I look the part of an ex wife
shrewish woman full of regret
who never really fit you anyway

I ache in color
my hurt surreal
you didn't love me anymore
