Satyr Play

I am the darkness
    that crucifies life
I am the levity
    deposing the strife
the satyr’s play
    a potent wine
profane and holy
    flawlessly twined
tartness and sweetness
    plucked from the vine
Rising and setting
    the sun in its hour
‘wakens the scent
    of the fragrant flower
then loosens her tresses
    to rest upon earth
becoming a cover
    of mystical dust
And we in likeness
    freely imbibe
depleting the vats
    of Thalia Melpomene
excess and dearth
    elixir combined
comedy tragedy
    writing the lines
arousing us sleepwalkers
    awaking to life
