Washed Out

~A Tight Cord~

The first arrow
shattered my trust.

The second arrow
was mine to shoot.

The third arrow
pierced my heart.

Maybe you knew
we were toxic:
walking hand-in-hand
towards perdition.

I never told you how
my cord was wrapped
around you—

I still can't.

~Oil and Water~

They don't mix,
and neither did we.

I lost my soft edges
for a long time, and truthfully
they never fully rounded again.

Despite that, I found myself.

I want you to know
because I'm proud
of the parts you disliked.

~Dark Matter(s)~

The heartache of our lost
friendship hurt longer
and far worse than any other
failed relationship.

I told you my secrets.

I kept yours.

We were perfect...
until we weren't.
You decided this fate, this
unbearable outcome.

This breach of trust
so hideous, I too would like
to hide my eyes.
