roadside flowers

She seemed to sway
back and forth
spiraling with indecision;
a black-eyed Susan
unfurled and blooming
atop the weedy gully
north of Sunset point.

Her burnt yellow dress
lithe with pleated lines
fluttering divine.
A Latin samba in the breeze
as her dark hair soars
like raven wings
haloed by an orange
disintegrating sun.

The traffic roars by
obscure mechanical beasts
lost in the desert landscape
barreling dust over I-17;
she slips back into the car
the perfect selfie was taken.
Summer flowers
last only a season.
