Low Enough

I pushed you down far enough
That you can't rise
I held you down low low down
Out of sight of my eyes
I can't bear to see you
It would barrel me down
Low low down deeper down
Please stay out of my mind
I've spent decades of my life
Trying to bury your memory
To keep you from bringing me
Right back down deeper down
Where I was before
I thought I'd pushed you down far enough
That you could not rise
Back into my line of sight
But how wrong I have been
All those things that I buried
Down low low down deep
Are rising into the fading light
Of my life
I have to deal with emotions
That a younger man hid down deep
And face all the failures of my younger self
As they rise from down low low down
To be counted
