Image for the poem a mother's prayer

a mother's prayer

my sadness peaks within my dawning hours
I lay my head down on sorrow
my worries tiptoe into my thoughts
my soul takes them in
I turn them over in my mind
times I could have been a better person
and days I fell short

I carry the pain of yesterday
I keen for the morrow
will you still be here?
I ache I can't help you
we all die alone
but I wish I could but face the day beside you
or go in your stead
I would open the door to the immortal
and find your place in the kingdoms

my son I keen
I wish I had been a better mother
I feel you slipping away
I can do little to keep you
you've said your peace
I know the day is approaching
I feel your fear
the angels are near I can feel them hovering
they will escort you over

I will miss you dearly
I will meet you again
I was honored to be your mama
please stay with me a little longer
