13 heroes died for thee

A tearful eye cannot explain
What sacrifice you gave for me
Nor can a country entertain
Why 13 heroes died for thee

A broken People may endure
And proudly boast that they are free
But this, I cannot be so sure,
Why 13 heroes died for thee

Men of arms! O, men attuned
A somber song and solemn plea;
That I was not the one who died
For 13 heroes died for me

My tears are blood, who weeps for me?
This torrent flood; who keeps me free?
Who knows the way that we must go
When death is all we reap and sow?
