The Voice

The city has lost its voice and we have lost a noble soul. We looked at your life and we saw a beautiful heart beating in front of us because you took the time to condense the experience of being alive into words. And with your words you gave us the stars, with your life you showed us how the spread their light. You said that empathy is the key to changing the world and you set about doing just that. There was no "me" or "I", instead your life was all about the "we". It was all about sharing and encouraging others to be the best version of themselves they could be. And I know you were just a man who had his own problems, but you never shared them with me. Instead, you turned them into that wayward smile. And when talking with others you did not listen to reply, but listened for understanding. You exhibited true compassion and concern. You were a deep thinker, a dreamer, a poet, a doer not sitting idly by. You were always busy about doing the things that truly mattered. You didn't fall into society's trap. You saw through society's lies when it told you, "It's all about you. Go out and get all you can. Fight, scratch and claw your way to the top." Instead you chose to spend your life trying to make a better version of society. And so while life is short, in your humble way you didn't let yours pass by like a field mouse never shaking the grass. No indeed, your life shook the stars. In the end, the best that any of us can hope for is to be a good memory and Brian, we will forever remember you. Peace traveler.
