THE OLD BONE SUCKER

WHAT?

I remember
my first trip to
the Bayou in
Louisiana, a friend
paddled me in a Piro (pirogue)
deep into the swamps
to meet some of his
Cajun kinfolks, continually
bragging about how
I was going to like the food
and friendly relatives.
Upon arrival at a house
build on stilts above swampy water,
a gang of Cajuns came out
to meet us, I'm not going
to describe their dress
and physical features they
were interesting and different
(in a good way, real people).
Then I met his ancient, and
I mean ancient, uncle Budero;
later at "supper" that night
as we ate, attention was called
to him as the "champion bone sucker";
as he sucked chicken bones and fish bones,
He left nothing on the bones, they
were sucked dry and clean.
 He was indeed an old bone sucker.
I'd heard of "bone suckers" but not like
uncle Budero. I much rather, 101%,
prefer the other bone suckers...
"Ya'll (Cajun) know what I mean?"
