The Unforgotten (repost)

Writing like the illustration of a whisper
The outlined cries of an unspoken heart
Every reflection perceived through the eyes of another
Is both the truth and the lie of its image

Something gets unlocked in me
Layered beneath this depth of perception
Reading ourselves into inkblot literature

What is the ash but a forest that took flight in sparks?
Only to cascade on us
Like the precipitation of a former flame
Carried off in a still life flood of vacant memory

What do you see in the aftermath of the scenery?
When the beauty of every ember is a threat
Surely, we are more than kindling
Reminiscing on a lifetime comprised of love and regret

You exist in a place of timelessness
I am lost in the illusion of death
I pass away outside of you
As you move on in an everlasting breath

Do I write an empty serenade?
My heavy heart sinks beneath invisible tears
Living life without you as I marinade
In the bitter flavor of the absent years

Recipient-less letters written and unread
Is love best spoken to the dead?
Have I lived my best or worst life yet?
You are a part of me I cannot touch
And evermore I could not, nor would I forget....
