Trick Candles

Starting over, another year, another square one
Enveloped in time, life doesn't wait for me
Ready or not, I breathe
Waiting for potential and intentions to cross the threshold
From mere sincere to realize the nature of integrity
Finding a backbone for honor despite the ways I've betrayed myself
More than just apologetic
A change of heart for behavior
Following in the footsteps of an out of world Savior
Can I fit the mold of your heart?
When it's but a part of you that I'm still learning to grow into
It's not what we say but what we do
No one cares what anyone knows
They just want to know who cares
Like stars waiting for their existence to be acknowledged
An isolated shine in a sea of black
When we're just one in the numbers, getting lost in a common orbit
Like trick candles we still burn upon extinguishing
Because our shine is an echo that outlives the smoke
Legacy is a light without a wick after the wax turns to vapor
Two different stories tell of who I am
How I identify and who I am on paper
When I'm loose leaf deep and confession is wearing thin
The ink bleeds through till I become who I am
As I blossom, a harvest born of something taking root within
Am I the best version of myself or still in revision
Waiting for the release of the second edition
I can color every page with a garden of thoughts
But what is beauty without the substance to last eternally
A fading glory in the moments marvel that amounts to nothing
As if I'm just a seasonal lover
I've got secrets that I put on display
In vague reference to confession
Making therapy of an attempt to be clever enough to be heard
Getting lost in everything I say
Trying to live worth the affection
There's a storm in my heart and I change the weather with every word
Rainmaker voice box
Sun contrast to raindrops
Find the vibrancy despite the thunder and the flood
Hear me out in more than just an empty message
I'm still learning to speak the language of blood
Whether of grace or family vein
Refine my perspective
There's nothing quite like a lesson in pain
Dying to learn the value of my every breath
Celebrating birth in the face of death...
