Only You
It is you I love, it is you I see when I close my eyes, it is your heart I feel beating through my chest, it is your voice that sings to my soul. This love is a promise that If nothing else I can give you this, that at my worst or my best I will love you with all I am. When I am lost I am found for when I look into your eyes, it is your gaze that warms me when I am cold, it is your touch that gives me hope when things seem hopeless, when I start to drift away it is your hand that will bring me back to life. It is always your soul that will shine through to me, you are the better angel of my nature cutting beyond the darkness to light my way, we are one forever. Love is not big enough of a word to describe this truth, there are no words, only you.

This poem is one i wrote over 10 years ago when i was married, which i am not any longer, but i believe it is still a decent poem which i would love to get some feedback on!

Gratitude OG, i started writing poetry in order to turn them into songs, however found that they were oftentimes better staying as poems.

Freestyle structured poetry is very flexible, lyrics or short stories are a few forms, for some cadence seems to be easier obtain in a natural flow where you’re not really concerned with metering or syllable count,
for some it’s a lot easier to convey their message to a better understanding that way because of its natural flow.

Hey OG, I couldn't agree more and it also depends on what music i hear in my minds eye when i write a poem and if i can capture it with my guitar or on the keys. If i can the a small rework of the poem to verse, chorus a bridge and maybe an interlude, then on from there! I have written over 300 songs and 89% of them started out as poems, I will have to try and find the original notebook where I wrote them as poems and post some here. No one has seen the poems unlike the songs they became and perhaps they deserve to see the light of day.
