Flight, Of Birds

1. I feed them fennel spice and
peanut butter suet, but
the birds eat my grass seed, anyway.

2.  Come back !
-- Jittery chirps and
unisoned, flapping wings
because I merely opened a window.

3.  Ah! Don't fly away
without taking me--
I am not meant to be here, long
and the ocean still calls.

4.  Chickadees gather 'round
'Lil Bastard, in worship
for the squirrel empties the feeders
onto the ground for them.

5.  When my hair blew away
on chemo-winds
the birds picked it up
and lined their nests .

6.  Thoughts
like a hummingbird's pulse
run rampant --
can't see the future, only
(the maddening ) now.

7.  I wish I was there
to have seen the spirit
alight on Christ, like a dove--
"Holy, holy, holy!" the winged
creatures sing, as they circle the throne .

8.  The stork only brought me one baby,
but I couldn't possibly have shared my love
among more.

9.  Would heights be easier to stomach
if I could control them, as
a bird in flight?

10.  Has anyone figured out, yet
the airspeed velocity
of an unladen swallow ?

11.  Hitchcock duped Tippie Hedren--
some of those birds were real...

12.  Can one possess robin's egg blue
and become that color
that so calms the soul?

13.  He sends the birds to me
because the Lord knows
I need their messages.
