My Father’s Son

Am I my brother’s keeper
Question
But I am
My father’s son
There’s no doubt
Within my mind
Look how I move
And I bet
You will see him
In all of my life
I’ve never called him
By his biological name
Father, dad
I am
My father’s son
His blood
Is in my veins
His mechanical abilities
Floods my brain
His taste in music
I listen so proudly
Though I wish
I could take back
All of our arguments
And the times we didn’t speak
Even though
They didn’t last long
Those are precious minutes
I will never
Get to replace
Sitting and thinking
All the times
I could’ve…..
And should’ve……
Been a better son
Growing up
And thinking I was an adult
Before I ever was
Rebellious
Stopped listening to my dad
Was my downfall
But I never gave up
Most important saying
In my dad’s makeup
I am
My father’s son
Though
We may not look alike
Talk the same
Or walk the same walk
But there’s no denying
Or a person in this world
That can say anything
That will ever make me
Turn my back
On my father
He raised me
He fed me
He instilled in me
The traits
Of becoming a better man
That I am today
My father’s son
You all can clearly see
I will always be
Until the death of me
My father’s son
I love you dad
