House of a Thousand Doors

Of the many rooms
under this mansion's roof
you find yourself in
. cleaning
. . decorating
. . . furnishing
. . . . demolishing
. . . . . running plain scared from

each leads to hallway
or staircase that proposes
more rooms upon rooms
upon . . .
but retracing your steps
is possible only in theory
for nothing in this world
ever remains static
Houses are no exception
---alive, growing as surely
as they shed dead shingles
Look again for yourself;
do you really believe
that is the exact same entrance
you came in?
Perception is erected
on a foundation of expectations
which is why few often recognize
a bad house for what it really is
. . . until it is too late, when
along with your hopes and dreams
such a world view contained
within the picture window
is shattered
That's Rose Red for you, Sweetheart.
