What Was and What's to Come
I'm caught between transcendence and gravity
When everything revolves around the world behind our own eyes
Sucked in again as insecurities speak
Triggered by commonalities
Attacking from different angles inspired by the same needs
Residing on opposite ends of an unbalanced equation
Learning to love despite the thief behind our homes
Hearts are held hostage
Targeted venting of sentimental wounds
Caught up in the wreckage
Casualty in the ruins of a former life
I don't live there anymore
Provoked by insinuation
This is reconstructive heart surgery
Picking up the pieces of a former love's lie
It takes two to fail
Overlook the mistakes and rebuild from the ground up
Only as willfully blind as we choose to be
Love bridging the gaps, reaffirming family ties
Finding home on the other side of a past life's lies
I see the walls stare back at me with the smiles masquerade
Fight for me when the enchantment begins to fade
Into the backdrop when honesty is the lie of how we feel
Learning to love our enemies when the pain is all too real
I've got the same blood on my hands despite a different consequence
Mercy only meets us in our weakness when we abandon all defense
Bargain pleas for grace when we're guilty and humble enough to say
We only know what we can see in the darkness of our light of day
When we live as only shadows of a world beyond our final breath
Love is our only hope in the death of death
Crosses bared to grief’s reprieve
Knowing and yet still learning what it is that we believe
Crucifix tombstone writ with the eulogy of the sting
The same that sought to bury us has become the offering
Cornerstone to divine rebirth, I die yet live again
Overcoming condemnation, empowered to walk in victory over sin...
