Renovating Broken Homes

Torn to be re-knit into the tapestry of a common fabric
I see eye to eye with you, where pain became a conduit to compassion
When love despite our imperfections is loving someone else as ourselves
For all the better attributes of sons and fathers
Let grace remake us where fallibility seeks for a Savior

To bridge the gap in the conversation of our lives
Filling the silence and the void of distances with healing
To mend us back together into a day born out of our darkest nights
For all the times I took for granted having you in my life
A thousand apologies go unspoken but are felt in the regrets of time wasted

Yet we invest from where we are now no longer living indebted to our pasts
With visions reshaped for brighter futures and fuller homes to displace brokenness
What are we but men seeking the best way to raise our legacies?
And find beauty in the wake of our self-made ashes
When all that passes away is but room for what will be

As wayward hearts find shelter in grace's will to restore and mend
When family is the bond of love like heaven that will never end
Taking lessons from the unconditional will to forgive and reunite
What is life but our relative struggles and those we deem as worth the fight?
Passing on love in the bloodline, of any other father's, I am proud to call you mine...

These most recent posts were Father's day tributes to my father in law, brother in law, and this one was written to my real dad. It's been back and forth with loving and at times being tempted to live in a place of resentment at times but at this point I've let go of the past and choose to hold on to the good things.
