We are Ruckus

The neighbor walks his dog, stops

at a house to taunt their dogs,

his dog urinates on the tire

of the car parked in front,

to mark the farthest corner

of a rectangle that starts

from where he stays, the other end

of the road and of his world.

Now it is a dispute in barks

joined in by dogs in homes nearby,

yawps and throaty bellows,

the homes are honking,

a neighbor allowed his mutt

to badger dogs behind a fence,
they are running up and down,

their barking tries to squeeze through.

One large bark tumbles through,

lands in the middle of the road

“That’s ours!”

frightening the dog outside.

 It scampers away and parks

at someone else's post and starts

to be discordant there,

going on about beliefs,

cackling about their candidates,
leaving comments by the doors
about the business of others,
it is brave, being on a leash,

It would be quiet without it.
