tundra

I watched these hills
go stone cold gray.
I watched winter
have it's way
The cold wind comes
like the breath
of a first love.
I wanna close
my eyes.
I don’t ever
wanna wake up.
I watched the moon
change
into every shape.
I’ve seen
slivers
of hope
turn into
splinters
of pain.
Tiny scratches
through the wooden
cabinets,
but luck
never came.
I wanna close
my eyes.
I wanna leave this place.
