the river//the rain

The river is rising,
the river is rising,
the water is coming to wash it away.
To let it all go, to let it all fade.
Time to shake hands with your past,
and make steps towards who you want to be.
I don’t even know what that means.
I wasn’t even hardly listening.
Oh, how the palm trees sighed.
Oh, how we felt those nights.
Lost in a fog, and the river is rising.
Coming to wash it away,
to rinse the dirt off,
the tears are free to fall short
and we’re free to try to make things work,
and you’re free to stay here until the rain stops.
Of course. Of course. Of course.
